In the last decade, there has been increasing talk of open science, the aim of which is to provide researchers and the general public with access to research data according to the FAIR principles and to simplify their reuse.
As part of the project GET TO KNOW, which aims to introduce the principles of open science into scientific research work, which is co-financed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the European Union - NextGenerationEU through the national Recovery and Resilience Plan, was thus created the first guidebook on open science called Meet FAIR.
The manual opens up the fundamental questions related to the implementation of open science and shows existing solutions and possibilities for the development of the field of open science. It was created in collaboration with representatives of various research organizations that are involved in the project "GET TO KNOW - Support for introducing the principles of open science in Slovenia".
According to the editor dr. Sonja Bezjak, the purpose of the handbook is to introduce the basic concepts of open science to various players from a wide field of scientific disciplines in the Slovenian language and to introduce them to the research infrastructure and services that serve open science in the Slovenian environment and at the same time are inextricably linked to the European and wider international research spaces.
The manual is thus intended for researchers at different stages of their scientific careers, research funders, management of research organizations, libraries, data experts in various roles, repositories of publications and data, publishers and editors of scientific journals, citizen researchers and others who work in the field of science or but they are interested in scientific findings and the processes in which they are created.
The goal is for the handbook to identify opportunities to contribute to open science, learn about responsibilities, and find information about where they can find support or to whom they can offer support and in what ways. The authors of the handbook hope that it will help readers in developing a culture of open sharing of various scientific results financed with public funds.
The manual is fully accessible to all interested parties also in digital format.
